Behind the screens at Virginia House

Virginia House students and young professionals accommodation in Worcester has a gym on the ground floor. With two large windows at street level the tenants felt a lack of privacy when exercising in the gym. The landlord wanted to solve this problem but at the same time let light into the room through the windows as well as keeping it fresh and decorative.
I was asked to come up with a design for the two windows (three panes each) and explore various materials. We ended up using frosted vinyl applied to the inside. The film is translucent and lets in light without outsiders seeing what’s going on inside, and the artwork is equally visible from both sides. The design answers the brief for something colourful, bright and youthful and has been well received.
